Most consular services and all visa applications are by appointment only. Appointments must be made online

The Belgian passport:

  • is an official, worldwide recognised travel document.
  • allows travel in all countries of the world, if necessary after obtaining a visa.
  • is in the format of a booklet.

Worth knowing:

  • All Belgians, from birth, can obtain their own passport.
  • A Belgian passport is valid for 7 years (5 years for minors)
  • The passport remains valid after moving to another Belgian municipality or abroad.
  • The passport applicant must be physically present from the age of 6


Preparing your passport application


Children under the age of 6


Print and complete the passport application form for children under the age of 6, both parents must sign the application.

Make an appointment and send the application form by email.

In some cases, the post may request certain additional documents before issuing the passport.
 

Adults and children over the age of 6


Print and complete the passport application form for adults and children over the age of 6. For a child; both parents must sign the application.

Make an appointment and send the application form by email. 

In some cases, the post may request certain additional documents.

A facial photograph will be taken at the consular post (from age 6), digital fingerprints of 2 fingers (from age 12) and your signature.

Consular taxes must be paid in cash only (exact amount), the taxes are subject to change due to the exchange rate.

Since June 15, 2014, the date of commencement of the Consular Code, you can no longer apply for an ordinary biometric passport (valid for 7 years, 5 years for minors) at a Belgian consular post abroad if you are not officially registered in one of them. If you are still registered in a Municipality in Belgium, you should contact that authority to obtain a biometric passport.

If necessary, you can still apply for a temporary passport (valid for up to one year) at a consular post abroad.
